Members of the Hetherington lab are committed to increasing equity, diversity and representation across the scientific community, and in particular, in the Geosciences. We recognize that systemic injustice and bias impact our decision making processes, and commit to recognizing when and how these factors may influence our perspective and actions.

We will work to educate ourselves, promote dialogue, commit to listening, and work on implementing strategies and building a framework that creates a welcoming and fruitful environment for all people to pursue a their educational and research goals in the Geosciences.

Personal growth is a continuous process and we commit to working on it by:

  • Participating in appropriate professional development activities.

  • Promoting departmental and institutional policies and actions that diversify our faculty, staff, students and visitors to campus

  • Active engagement with community building through mentorship and communication.
