Summer 2021 fieldwork near Eureka, NV for Angela Fiorito and Dustin Morgan's MS theses. We sampled the Taghanic and Frasnes intervals at sections IV and V of Johnson et al. (1980, 1996). We collected bulk rock samples for conodonts, carbon isotopes, and trace element geochemical analyses.

Angela's project focuses on integrated conodont biostratigraphy-carbon isotope chemostratigraphy documentation of these lesser studied Devonian biogeochemical events.

Dustin's project focuses on the same events, but using sequence stratigraphic analysis and redox-sensitive trace element geochemistry to explore the roles of sea level and ocean redox state as possible drivers.

Their projects together will unravel the relative timing of the event components (black shale intervals, positive carbon isotope excursions, possible anoxia, possible conodont turnover or extinction).
